Uncle Junior lands another victory for W.P. Mullins at Punchestown
Another one of W.P. Mullins trained horses succeeds at Punchestown, this time it was, Uncle Junior, who bagged the narrow victory in the Avon Ri Corporate and Leisure Resort Chase for the La Touche Cup on 26th April, 2012.
The son of Saddlers´ Hall, out of mare Caslain Nua, raced as the joint favourite with Saddlers Storm and Arabella Boy with winning odds of 6 to 1.
He raced under jockey, Mr. Patrick W. Mullins and was determined to land the victory. He succeeded in doing so, as he finished a short-head before Lydon House.
The third place was secured by Saddlers Storm, who fell four lengths behind the runner-up, whereas the P.J. Rothwell trained Tally Em Up, finished in fourth place.
Jockey Patrick Mullins was immensely delighted with the victory, as he stated to the press that:
"He's everything you want in a racehorse and put his head down and kept trying. He isn't the best jumper over ordinary fences but is interested more in these."
The eleven-year-old bay gelding showed immense progression in this race, as he finished eighth in the Glenfarclas Handicap Chase (Cross Country Chase) at Cheltenham on 13th March, 2012.
This was the first victory of the season for the gelding, who is bred by Mrs. Carmel O'Brien. He performed brilliantly last season as he managed to complete a hat-trick.
With this victory, it is speculated that there are more to come.
The runner began his career in an incredible manner as he raced as a favourite with the odds of 9 to 4 in the Www.kilbegganraces.com INH Flat Race at Kilbeggan on 2nd June, 2007, winning his debut race, as he defeated, Big Syd,
by 3 lengths.
Earlier, W. P. Mullins and jockey, Mr. P.W Mullins enjoyed, Champagne Fever, triumphing over, Melodic Rendezvous, by an immense margin of 7 ½ lengths in the Grade 1 Betchronicle.com Champion INH Flat Race at Punchestown on 25th April,
2012.
It turned out to be a great week for the trainer as, Mullins trained Quevega also raced in an impressive manner in the Grade 1 Ladbrokes.com World Series Hurdle at Punchestown on 26th April, 2012 as she defeated, Voler La Vedette,
by 5 ½ lengths.
