Uncle Mo and Stay Thirsty worked for their next assignments, and their big goal the Breeders’ Cup Classic
Mike Repole and Todd Pletcher are dreaming big for their two super 3-year-old colts, Uncle Mo and Stay Thirsty, respectively. The aim is to run them both in the Grade 1 $5million Breeders’ Cup Classic at Churchill Downs on 5 November, 2011.
The two top runners are going to take different paths to get there.
Stay Thirsty, the Jim Dandy and the Travers Stakes' winner is pointed to start in the Grade 1 $750,000 Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont Park on 1 October, 2011.
On the other hand, Uncle Mo will make his next start in the Grade 2 $200,000 Kelso Stakes over one mile at Belmont Park, also on 1 October, 2011.
The 3-year-old Bernardini colt, Stay Thirsty, continued his preparations for his next start at Belmont Park, working five furlongs under jockey Javier Castellano in 1 minute and 1.61 seconds on 18 September, 2011.
The 2010 2-year-old champion, after he got beaten by a nose by Caleb’s Posse in the King’s Bishop Stakes, is busy in preparation for the Grade 2 Kelso.
Stay Thirsty, during his preparation, turned in five furlongs under jockey Patti Krotenko in a fast 59.30 seconds.
The 3-year-old Indian Charlie colt, Uncle Mo, was diagnosed with a rare liver disease 4 months back, which forced him to miss the Kentucky Derby.
After his long layoff, he has run in the King’s Bishop Stakes at Saratoga and at Belmont Park he will mark his second race after his comeback.
Uncle Mo was scheduled for a run in the $1 million Pennsylvania Derby at Parx in the early schedule, but plans changed because Pletcher and Repole wanted Uncle Mo to run over a one turn mile as oppose to the 1 1/8 miles two turns at Parx.
Stay Thirsty, on the other hand, has enough foundation under him after rolling in second behind Ruler on Ice in the Belmont Stakes at Belmont Park, then at Saratoga winning the Grade 1 Jim Dandy and the Grade 1 Travers Stakes.
Possibly the leader of the 3-year-old division, Stay Thirsty is also doing well in his workout sessions, and both two races will be interesting to watch, especially when the two runners will be looking to run in the Breeders’ Cup Classic after their races.
