Uncle Mo and Stay Thirsty wrap up training sessions for the big races at the weekend for trainer Todd Pletcher
Uncle Mo is all set as he tunes up for his comeback on 21 August by breezing five furlongs in about 59.90 seconds for the all important Grade 1 King’s Bishop Stakes to be held at Saratoga on 27 August, 2011.
At the same time, the Grade 1 Belmont Stakes' runner-up and the Grade 2 Jim Dandy Stakes' winner, Stay Thirsty, completed his preparations for yet another Grade 1 assignment, as the 3-year-old Bernardini colt turned in his final workout at Saratoga.
Both these colts are trained by Todd Pletcher, and his 3-year-olds turned in a good workout along with other horses preparing for the Saratoga event.
The 3-year-old Indian Charlie colt, Uncle Mo, who is coming out of a rare liver disease, showing good signs, worked with Turbo Compressor, who recently won the Curlin Stakes for his trainer, Todd Plecther.
Both the horses covered five furlongs in about 59.90 seconds.
Uncle Mo who was eager to get out, did his final quarter in a fast 23.62 seconds.
Uncle Mo finished off his entire workout after galloping out for six furlongs, and he clocked in 1 minute and 12.47 seconds.
It is going to be a big test in the King’s Bishop Stakes for Uncle Mo, who has not run since the Grade 1 Wood Memorial Stakes on 9 April, 2011, where he finished third.
On the other hand, Stay Thirsty, who is coming off a successful run in the Grade 2 Jim Dandy Stakes, turned in five furlongs in 1 minute and 1.62 seconds.
He was accompanied by the filly, Super Espresso, who herself is a graded stakes' winner.
The workout ended the preparation for the Grade 1 Travers Stakes, where Stay Thirsty would enter the field with the co-favourite, Grade 1 Preakness Stakes' winner, Shackleford.
Stay Thirsty, under jockey Javier Castellano, finished three lengths before her training filly, Super Espresso, in the five furlong training session.
Uncle Mo was certainly under close observation since he hasn’t run since April, and on top of it, coming out of a career threatening disease.
Both are looking good and come this weekend, might come out as the winners in the most prestigious races at Saratoga.
