Uncle Mo finishes ahead of Havre de Grace in the favourites column for the Breeders’ Cup Classic
Despite doing so well throughout the season, and even going on to defeat the males, 4-year-old filly Havre de Grace is still second choice for the Grade 1, $5million Breeders’ Cup Classic as the 2010 2-year-old champion Uncle Mo, gets the nod over Havre
de Grace.
The son of Indian Charlie, out of Playa Maya by Arch, Uncle Mo gets to be the 5 to 2 morning line favourite as he draws post number 12 in a field of 13 runners for the 5 November, 2011, Churchill Downs race.
However, for the 4-year-old Larry Jones trained filly, Havre de Grace, is going to face the boys again, but that should not pose that much of a problem since she has done it before in the Grade 1 Woodward Stakes at Saratoga at about 1 1/8 miles.
Her prep race also turned out to be an impressive one, when she defeated 3-year-olds and above fillies and mares in the Grade 1 Beldame Stakes at Belmont.
Uncle Mo’s post and his odds have made trained Todd Pletcher happy, and the conditioner would be hoping that his sensational colt lives up to the hype.
Because of his liver disease, Uncle Mo missed a good chunk of the season including the Triple Crown which left his connections frustrated, but he has come out of his disease fine and has been winning races and turning in brilliant works in bullet times.
Havre de Grace’s Woodward Stakes rival, Flat Out, would be looking to settle the score on the filly who got the jump on him in the Woodward. Flat Out will break from post number 2, and the runner is training well for the big race, but he has only two wins
this season and both coming at Belmont Park.
Another protagonist, who has been conquering whatever thrown his way from the Southern Hemisphere to the Northern, So You Think, has posted eleven group 1 events on grass from Australia, Great Britain to Ireland and he is now ready to make his mark at the
North American racing circuit.
The sheer talent of the lineup is giving goose bumps to the supporters but the real question mark is ion Uncle Mo’s ability to go the distance of 10 furlongs when won beyond a mile and a sixteenth and on 5 November it’s a question he must answer.
