Uncle Mo looking stringer than before says jockey John Velazquez
After landing his 36th win of the Saratoga meet on 15 August, 2011, jockey John Velazquez opened up a massive lead of 10 wins in the meet, which was supposed to be a fairly wide open battle for the top spot for the rider.
John Velazquez has surprised not many, but he has certainly aimed higher than before by capturing seven stakes' win in his 36 Saratoga meet victories.
Jockey John Velazquez is having a ball at Saratoga and the wins are coming think and fast for the veteran jockey, but in the past week, there was some news about this 2010, 2-year-old champion, Uncle Mo, which really got the jockey going and got him excited
for the second half of the meet.
The 2-year-old champion, Uncle Mo, is back and training like never before, looking good in his workouts and according to his mount, John Velazquez, he is looking stronger than ever ahead of his ultimate goal, Grade 1 King’s Bishop at Saratoga on 27 August,
2011.
John Velazquez guided Uncle Mo in two training sessions, one on 9 August and the other on 14 August.
The champion colt was gearing up particularly for his much anticipated run on the 27th August clash, and the colt looked stronger to John Velazquez in each training session.
The 2009 Wood Memorial was the last race run by Uncle Mo and he hasn’t run since then.
The jockey believes that Uncle Mo looks more in shape then he did in the beginning of the year while his movement and phsique appears to be stronger as well.
He could have gone on to win many classic races which he missed throughout the year as he was sidelined due to a liver disease he was suffering from, which made him lose considerable weight.
The recovery period has been trouble free and swift for Uncle Mo and the 3-year-old colt is now back to his own self ahead of the King’s Bishop with higher energy levels which has made owner, Mike Repole, feel confident about Uncle Mo’s health.
