Uncle Mo will stand at Ashford--the North American-based operation of Coolmore Stud, says Mike Repole
It has been a whirlwind season for the Eclipse Award winning 2010, 2-year-old champion Uncle Mo, who looks to finish the 2011 season on a high as well, as he aims to run down the field in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Classic at Churchill Downs on 5 November,
2011.
Will the 3-year-old run past the Breeders’ Cup Classic? Nobody knows but owner Mike Repole has slightly lifted the haze by disclosing that last year’s juvenile champion will stand at Ashford Stud near Versailles Kentucky after retiring from racing on 6 October.
Mike Repole is looking no further than the Breeders’ Cup as long as Uncle Mo’s future is concerned, but also added that he could run the champion colt in 2012.
The owner also said that people have been interested in Uncle Mo’s breeding rights ever since her broke his maiden by a massive margin of 14 ½ lengths, and on choosing Coolmore he said they are historically, prestigiously and globally are industry leaders.
It surely will be a great place for Uncle Mo to spend his retirement days there. Racing wise Uncle Mo has been sensational, as he was undefeated in three starts in 2010 including the Grade 1 Grey Goose Breeders’ Cup Juvenile, which ultimately got him the
Eclipse Award as champion 2-year-old.
Uncle Mo tasted defeat for the first time in 2011 when he ran in the Grade 1 Wood Memorial on 9 April, 2011 when he finished third.
Uncle Mo was later scratched out of the Grade 1 Kentucky Derby, when he was diagnosed with a liver disorder and was sidelined for two months to recover at Winstar Farm.
The son of Indian Charlie returned to racing and turned in a gallant second in the Grade 1 King’s Bishop Stakes where he got nosed out by Caleb’s Posse on 27 August at Saratoga.
The 2-year-old champ came back roaring when he delivered a sensational performance at Belmont Park in the Kelso Handicap that made him one of the favourites for the Breeders’ Cup Classic.
