Uncle Mo works a five furlong bullet, and leave Todd Pletcher up with joy
The last year 2-year-old champion looks to have fully recovered from his rare liver disease, as he bucked and kicked at the Oklahoma training track on 9 August, 2011.
The son of Indian Charlie made impressive runs under jockey John Velazquez, as the pair worked a bullet completing the five furlongs in a minute 1/5 as he continues to prepare for his scheduled return in the Grade 1 King’s Bishop Stakes at Saratoga on 27 August, 2011.
Uncle Mo’s fitness levels are back to normal as he broke three lengths behind a stable pony, Caixa Eletronica and spurted past his stable mate and hit the wire a length before his stable mate.
Trainer Todd Pletcher and jockey John Velazquez were very pleased with the colt’s work out session, and realized that he has been fully recovered to show fitness levels as good as before his disease.
John Velazquez hasn’t ridden Uncle Mo since prior to the Grade 1 Kentucky Derby, said the colt ran a good session and looks in top form, and almost ready for a race.
Uncle Mo has had five career starts and he has gone on to win 4 of them, his last race was the Grade 1 Wood Memorial run at Aqueduct racecourse over at a distance of 1 1/8 miles on dirt.
Under John Velazquez, Uncle Mo suffered his first career defeat in five starts, but the 2-year-old champion colt managed to finished third behind Toby’s Corner who won the race and Arthur’s Tale, the race runner up.
Since the time Uncle Mo went down with the rare liver disease, which made him lose weight considerably, things have gone according to plan for Todd Pletcher and owner Mike Repole.
The wanted to start in the Grade 1 King’s Bishop Stakes, and thought it was a long shot when the colt was recovering, but how things are shaping up now, it’s likely that the colt will arrive to take the field at Saratoga, and try to continue from where he left off.
