Uncle Mo’s pleasant comeback to the Saratoga’s Grade 1 King’s Bishop
Uncle Mo who has only experienced one defeat till date in his career in the Grade 1 Wood Memorial, nearly five months ago in April, is making a comeback into the Saratoga’s Grade 1 King’s Bishop Stakes. He will be without any doubt the centre of attention
for all those who have been waiting for him to grace the race tracks again.
The King’s Bishop Stakes is a Thoroughbred horse race that is held each year at Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, New York.
It is a seven furlong dirt race which is open for three-year-olds and being a Grade 1 race, it has a purse of $250,000.
Before April, Uncle Mo had won his three starts by an average of nearly eight lengths which included the Grade 1 Champagne and Breeders’ Cup Juvenile.
Another career win in his short three-year career includes Gulfstream Park’s one-mile Timely Writer.
The unbeatable was taken down to Churchill Downs where he was soon diagnosed with cholaniohepatitis, a rare disease that affects the liver. His symptoms include loss of weight and a withdrawn attitude while being trained.
He returned to trainer Todd Pletcher on the 11th of July after recuperating on WinStar Farm in Kentucky.
He has past experience at Saratoga of six recorded workout sessions before the King’s Bishop.
His first appearance at the racing scene was on 2010 Travers Day, winning his career debut by an astonishing 14 ¼ length margin.
He was actually destined towards the Triple Crown races earlier this year in Florida but things turned out to be a little twisted for the colt when he failed to win in the Grade Two Tampa Bay Derby around two turns and ended up with the Timely Writer Stakes
upon the insistence of his connections.
The pack did not prove to elude fierce competition for Uncle Mo and if anything else, his 3 ¾ length win did little to remove public concern regarding something being amiss with their hero horse.
The very first defeat came in on 9th April which thickened the plot further.
His trainer is glad to have him back and is optimistic about their winning possibilities on Saturday as ever since his return, Uncle Mo has not missed a single day’s training.
Saratoga is the champ’s favourite track, even though he has not run seven furlongs before.
The competition is tough and Uncle Mo needs to be at his level best in order to return to the winner’s circle.
However, there is hardly any doubt as far as his endless talent is concerned and it would not be shocking to see him return back to gleam and glory.
The opposition at the Saratoga Stakes would include the leading Flashpoint, who is known to be an undisputed champ for a distance of seven furlongs or less and not to forget Caleb’s Posse who is the last to first winner of the Grade Two Amsterdam here in
an earlier meet.
The left over list comprises of Runflatout, Dominus, Poseidon’s Warrior, Justin Phillip, and Cool Blue Red Hot.
Uncle Mo is not far from earning his fame and popularity back, rather his very return to the racetracks is the actual spice of the race!!
