  1. I can help with your first question:

Despite Miss Ophelia's initial resistance to planting soy beans instead of cotton, she goes with her instincts and reaps the benefits of this crop. While her Southern Neighbors must use slaves in order to harvest, Miss Ophelia hires Miss Star ( a freed woman) and then sometime later in the novel, Mr. Buck, to assist her in creating a free enterprise drink stand. Her Southern neighbors are still on the front porches drinking sweet tea and treating their slaves poorly. Miss Ophelia frees Tom and suggests he be spokesperson for her drink stand.

  2. Sorry that I am not actually answering your question; I was in 4th grade when I read Uncle Tom's Cabin last and I am 24 now, so the details are a little hazy.  (Actually, now that I have really read your question, I am not sorry.  It seems like you are asking someone to do your homework, and I am really not ok with that).

I just had to click in and tell you that I love your display name!  That is possibly my favorite Gilmore Girls quote ever!
