What is the REAL differance in these differant audio formats?

Am I going to be able to tell a differance in this?I am useing a PS3 for my blu-ray player on a true 1080p lcd JVC42" .I have bought a revciever(PIONEER VSX-1017TXV-k) and am thinking i need to exchange it for a unit that supports the HDMI1.3 and not just optical audio feed?because i am wanting the uncompressed audio from blu-ray movies.

  1. the only way for you to get uncompressed audio is to get a player that has 5.1 or 7.1 analog multichannel input. the ps3 doesnt haveone.or to get a new receiver. which is cheaper.

the real differnce between formats depends on the quality of your system or speakers.   cheap speakers  you wont hear the diference. but I tell you that your receiver is NOT the weak link

  2. Unless you have a very expensive and highly callibrated audio system, I doubt you can tell the difference between 5.1 compressed (DD or DTS) and 7.1 uncompressed (HD DD or DTS).

If you want uncompressed multi-channel, then yes you need a new receiver that supports HDMI 1.3a and HD Dolby.
