  1. I have a 7400 in .270 Win.  Its as accurate as a Rem 700 but that gas action soaks up recoil so much better than a bolt action.  I also bought a 10 round mag for it, great for zeroing in a rifle, you load it once and get on target before its empty.

  2. The rem 7400 is out of production GET the new model 750 if you want a semi-auto,

the browning is a great rifle...

  3. You are comparing a semi-auto rifle to a bolt action.

The Remington is one of the better and more successful lines of semi-auto hunting rifles, but that's not saying much as most hunters have come to realize the limitations of a semi-auto, the extra maintenence, the extra manufacturing cost, etc. Only consider a semi if you you are a shooter with some kind of disability that keeps you from a bolt action, and then you are going to be limited to 150 yards or so.

I like Browning pistls but just have never much liked their overpriced hunting rifles. Good quality, mediocre design. Not worth the price in my world.

Get the Remington 700 in .30-06. You will never regret that decision.

  4. Tough choice but since the 7400 is outta production I'd have to go with the A-bolt.

  5. Check out the Ruger model 77 in .308 instead. The .308 was designed to replace the .30-06 and now most police snipers use it. The .308 is more accurate than a .30-06 and cheaper to shoot, especially if you reload. I've killed 11 deer so far with my Ruger .308.

  6. I guess you are looking at a used or left over Remington 7400.

I prefer the Browning to the 7400. I also prefer the 700 to the Browning.

If you are going to hunt, stick with the 30-06. The caliber is not inherently less accurate than the .308. The military did not develope the .308 because the 30-06 was inaccurate. The 30-06 was known to kill men out to 1500 meters in WW2. The .308 was designed because the 30-06 is too powerfull for automatic fire. The only reliable 30-06 in auto fire was the Browning BAR, and it weighed almost  20 lbs without a 20 round mag. Compared to a Garand based M14 that tipped the scales just over 9 lbs.

The .308 is less powerful, very efficient, and kicks less then the ought 6. The military adopted it in the 1950's as an effort to make one round for all of the NATO countries to use.

I dont want to take anything away from the .308. I own a precision custom bolt in .308, and an AR10 in .308, and I am in law enforcement.

I use a 30-06 for EVERYTHING!!!. I have an auto loading Browning BAR in 30-06, and I have taken game out to 200 yards. I also own a 700 in 30-06, and it is a dream.

Now to talk about the 750. I subscribe to a magazine called gun tests. Gun Tests does not accept advertising. Its the consumer reports of the gun world. It is a must for shooters of all kinds. I recall that either late last year, or early this year they tested the 750 against a Browning BAR, and Bennelli. All guns were awsome, but the 750 won over the others because it was almost half the price. The Bennelli and the Browning were better as far as looks and finish, but all the guns shot well.

If you want a bolt or aan autoloader, you cant go wrong with Remington.

    Good luck.

  7. i speak from experience, stay away from remington automatics . . . they are widely known as jamomatics. search the firingline forums and you will find that there are more people that oppose owning one than those who advocate it. word has it that improvements were made to the 750 models, but there are bunches of complaints out there. Its nothing new either, because the 74 and the 740 had problems too. word has it that the short action calibers are okay, but the long actions are messed up. remington pump guns and bolt actions seem to work great, so ya can't badmouth their whole line of products. below is a google search for "remington 7400 jamming" and spend some time researching it. I ended up trading mine + cash for something else, because no body would buy it outright.

  8. G'Day mate i own a pump action 7600 308 patrol. At 150 meters iv'e shot a 3 grouping on a 20 cent piece and very accurate i love it i don't know about the other 7600 models but that's what ill go 4  and i did and im really happy with mine and it's performance and ive shot deer with it and a h.e.l.l. of a lot of pigs  up here in Australia.30.06 has a long action and a 308 is shorter action so you'll get faster shots out of it.I have heard that the 7600 patrol is one of the most accurate pumps going around and also there are a few  bolt actions that cant compete with it's accuracy .cheers mate

  9. Browning .. all the way.

  10. Being that I used to work as a machinist in a Gunsmith Shop, hands down, and without a doubt, get a Remington 700 chambered for 30-06.  Remington's "No Bind" bolt design is the best the market has to offer.

The Browning A Bolt is a good, rifle, but the Remington design is better.

The only other brand of rifle that I would suggest to you to examine would be a Savage.  I have a few of these myself.  They are also excellent rifles.

I hope that helps you out.  Good luck, and happy shooting.
