  1. Well it wasn't an Underground Railroad.

It was a bunch of safe houses and secret routes to the North so the slaves could get their freedom. Little did they know the North wasn't much better, slavecatchers were all over ready to take the slaves back to their masters. And the white people in the North refused to work with the blacks, and just always treated them as 2nd class citizens.

  2. The underground railroad was pretty much an escape route to freedom for african americans. They would would have to make it to the pensylvania or New york. Chritians would help you all a long the way giving you papers for freedom, protection, shelter, and encouragement, if you want to study more you shlould read biogrophey's on harriet tubman or the encyclopedia will have a good paragraph or 2 about the railroad!

  3. the underground railroad was used for runaway slaves to go up north wear slavery was not aloud

  4. Underground Railroad was a program to help African Americans escape slavery. it was a chain of houses that had a certain light on at a certain time, etc. That organized help for the escaping slaves.

  5. As all people answer in the same way, let me add a bit from a different angle.

In London the railroad system under the town is called Underground, in Paris Metro and in other towns it has different names. But even when it is not called train, it still is a railroad system.

And quite a few new railroads in Europe are build partly underground not to bother the local traffic system.
