Question:

Undelivered postcard from Vatican City, how do I retrieve it?

Hello all,

I posted a postcard from Vatican City in Nov 2006 to Singapore, but unfortunately, I forgot to put a complete address. As a result, the recipient did not get the postcard.

I have contacted Singapore post office company (SingPost). According to them, undelivered mail from foreign country will be returned to country of origin. It seems impossible to retrieve this postcard from Singapore.

Is there any chance I can retrieve this from Vatican City, anyone here familiar with Vatican City post system? What will they do on undelivered mail.

I understand that it may be too late to action, but personally, this postcard means a lot to me at this critical moment.

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you!

  1. Absolutely no hope to retrieve yr postcard.

Just registered letters can be tracked by the post office.

Also letters can be retrieved if undelivered and is 3 times more true for a "simple" postcard. Forget it !!

  2. good luck! the Vatican Post is the same  as the Italian one (Poste italiane), but for the postcard, you won't be able to retrieve it, sorry.

  3. Masterhwz, I don't know about the Vatican Post Office, but here in the place where I live, undelivered mails are usually placed on a board behind glass for people to see and claim. There is a good chance that the VPO also does this practice. But first, you have to give it time. Post Office mails are notorious for their snail speed. So I'm guessing that it might take more than a month (from the time you posted your postcard) for it to find its way back to Rome.
