Under-18 Scotland Women show improvement in two matches against Germany: Hockey Recap
In the Three-nation Under-18 women hockey series, being held amongst Germany, France and Scotland that began on June 1, at the CREPS Wattignies, Lille in France, Scotland first got defeated from the German Under-18 women by 1-5 on June 3, but later
concluded a draw against them at 2-2, the next day.
The Scottish team had dominated quite much of the match yet failed to overpower their opponents. In the first half, Scotland tied up the match by 1-1 until half-break and this goal for the team had been delivered by Hazel Hall.
The second half was quite much a neck-to-neck fight, until the Scottish defence lapsed three times in a row from holding Germans to score goals. Resultantly, the match concluded with a 5-1 victory for them over the Scottish junior women.
The second play against the German women was more intriguing as Scotland had displayed the best of their abilities to not just attack but keep hold of their opponents from taking a lead. This match, played on June 4, ended up with a draw at 2-2.
Scotland managed to open up with a lead over Germany during the first half of the match by 1-0, when Jenny Morris flicked a shot high up in the net, past the German's goal-keeper.
The German players gave a prompt response over this goal and unleashed a chain of attacks that were excellently defended by the Scottish defence, this time including, Laura Page and Kirsty Hill.
However, in a matter of 20 minutes, Germany levelled the scores at 1-1 that was followed by a lead goal as a result of a foul that took place in the Scottish circle, setting scores at 2-1.
The Scottish strikers paced their games and responded tremendously with an equaliser, when k**e Lawal went past the German defenders and goal-keeper, striking a hit into the goal. The scores knotted at 2-2.
The match closed with no further additions to the score-board, keeping scores locked up at 2-2 that declared the match as a draw for both the U-18 teams.
Scotland Under-18 women hockey team’s coach, Colin Clarke, was very pleased with the team’s improvement and commented, "This was a tremendous result for Scotland, and totally deserved. We corrected some of the errors of the previous game and were stronger
defensively, we still have a number of areas to work on but it`s another positive step forward."
Scotland will play its next match on the same day, June 4, against France.
