Under-18 Scotland Women will be playing in Germany from today: Hockey News
A Three-nation Under-18 women hockey series among Germany, France and Scotland initiated on June 1, at the CREPS Wattignies, Lille in France, of which the first two matches were played between France and Germany.
The Scottish junior team reached France yesterday, on June 2, and will be joining the series from today, June 3, where they will appear in their first match against Germany. The team will play two matches against both each other, until June 5.
On the other hand, Scotland’s U-18 men development squad is planning to leave for Northern Ireland, at Jordanstown, for a three-Test series against the Ulster select.
As for the Three-nations at Lille, it will be a good opportunity for the Scottish juniors to learn much about international competitions, before they head their way to the next stop, Holland, for featuring at the EuroHockey U-18 Championship in Utrecht,
this July.
Playing against quality rivals will enable them to improve their game before any major international appearances.
Considering the fact that both France and Germany will also be playing in the Utrecht championship, it will allow the U-18 Scottish team’s coach, Colin Clarke to measure the team’s improvements until then.
In the meantime, the two coaches, Bill Robson and Stephen Foster, are busy in training the men’s junior side that will be leaving to play matches in Ulster, this weekend. The team is a blend of both the U-18 national team players and the developmental side.
Robson commented, "The matches against Ulster will give some of the boys in the development squad an opportunity to experience hockey at a higher level and advance their development as players. Most of them will still compete at U18 level next season again
so it's a great exposure for them."
According to him, these U-18 men will also be learning a lot from the Irish trip in order to polish their skills for their next coming encounters like the EuroHockey U18 Championship II in Cernusco, Italy in July.
Moreover, he commented that the players putting their impression in these matches, will most expectedly, make their way into the squad and get selected for the upcoming Italy tour.
