Under 19 Glory and the ‘Masala’ of Indian Cricket - Part 2 - Opinion
Continued from Part 1...

Chand is in contention for being selected in the Indian side, and it would be fair to say that yet another Kohli like figure in a batting line up that oozes with power hitters, could well and truly come into the limelight. For India, this fact in itself
is a mouthwatering prospect.
Chand aside, the emergence of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750’s one dimensional approach towards the game. India’s below par bowling attack has historically lacked the penetrative ability to
defend monstrous totals which had been posted by their batsmen in the past. Passi’s immaculate line and length and his ability to bowl in the right areas, is thus a welcoming prospect for a bottled quiver of Indian pacemen.
This sudden surge of Indian players coming into the ranks can be attributed to a number of factors. A lot of this can be explained in light of BCCI's revamping of the Indian domestic structure.
With a burgeoning economy and state of the art facilities being made available to most young players in the country, youngsters have been driven to various localities to perform, and be in contention for playing in the national side one day.
The annual IPL saga has also permeated into the Indian society and has had a grave impact in instigating interest amongst the youth. In addition, India’s success at the international level, which was epitomized with their 2011 Cricket World Cup feat, has
had a massive bearing on generating interest in playing the game in a country where it is treated as a religion.
The intensity which had been missing in Indian cricket for the most part of the early 2000s has also come back with a bang. Indian players have historically had a wealth of talent, but at times lacked the confidence in translating their skills onto the field.
What is being witnessed nowadays however, by an Indian side in its prime, has been an exhibition of extravagant shots, quick running between the wickets and the desire to put the foot down onto the pedal when needed. The final of the Under 19 World Cup for
example, was characterized by hitting of sheer ferocity, but one aspect which was equally impressive, was the cohesiveness of this Under 19 team. The coordination which came in the form of quick running between the wickets between captain Chand and his contemporaries,
was commendable to say the least. In the group stage games against teams such as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755, Indian players were seen tumbling on the field, taking breath-taking catches and showing undue aggression.
It is perhaps, fitting, that in a nation such as India, where defeat is equated with an intrusion on private grief, aggression from the players is the antidote for success.
Genuine players coming into the fold also bodes well for an Indian team which may need bench strength for future success. M.S.Dhoni’s glorified days as India’s most successful captain in terms of winning global tournaments for example, could well be over
after the 2015 Cricket World Cup. In light of this, India’s captaincy role with the presence of players such as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/V-Kohli-c2737, is well and truly safe with more young players aspiring to lead India from the front. The Men in Blue
could not have asked for anything better.
