Under 21 cruising alone on RCI?

I was looking into booking a cruise for Spring Break on Expedia, but it looks like most of the cruise lines require you to have at least one person 21 or older in your stateroom (I'm 19 and my GF is 20). However, for Royal Caribbean, Expedia states that "Royal Caribbean requires that passengers under 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult who is at least 21 years old. Some exceptions are made for married couples and families traveling in multiple cabins. Please call a Cruise Specialist at 1-888-249-3978 if this applies to you." Elsewhere I have read that you need to have at least one person 21 or older to book a RCI cruise, but Expedia says you only need to be 18. Which is correct?

  1. Based on what your text says I think theyre making exceptions only for large families or groups travelling together with at least one over 21 per so many under that age. I I no idea why married couples should have lower age limit but that have nothing to do with you and your gf so. But since you bouth are so close to the age it never hurt to ask them, politely. They cant do more than saying no, cant they? But hey if your gf it 20 it shouldnt be that long untill he is 21 is it? Johan

  2. You have to have at least one person who is 21 in the room, but if you are married and call that number you will be given permission to go without someone who is 21.  Otherwise they will not let you book.  If you're going for spring break my suggestion would be to ask 2 friends (that are also a couple and one at least 21) if they'd like to go, you can all get a room together (rooms hold up to 4 people) and then you won't have to worry about trying to book a vacation with your age.

But just to let you know cruise lines have also changed the rules and you must be 21 the day the ship sets sail to be able to drink (so if you turn 21 while on the ship you are not considered 21), even in non American waters. I found that out the last cruise i went on when they handed me a paper that explained the new rules as i was boarding the ship.

good luck and i hope you can figure something out for your spring break

  3. If you can't find a definite answer online, your best bet is to just call the cruise company and ask them.

  4. Yup, you need to be 21 to book on RCI unless you are married (proof is required) or traveling with someone who is 21.

The only cruise lines where you can book at 18+ are Disney and Oceania (which, oddly enough, is geared to older people).

  5. Definitely, your best bet is to call the cruise line directly and ask them.

  6. Just call the cruiselines and thats your answer.  Expedia says you have to be 18 to check in for a hotel in the dominican.  I get there and the check in age is 13, so much for Expedia being right.
