  1. Ashwagandha is used for underactive thyroid. You could as someone else suggested take l-tyrosine and kelp also. I recommend the Ashwagandha I use the herbal tincture from HerbPharm or Planetaryherbals. Planetaryherbals is good you can get two ounces for about the same price as one ounce from HerbPharm. The L-tyrosine will help also, it is good for the mind. there is an herb called Bupleurum that is good for hormonal imbalances and detoxification, and you can take this everyday.

  2. Depends on the cause.

  3. Take KELP supplements (from GNC) You can also do what's called iodine painting. You can paint a 2"x2" spot on your stomach, bottom of feet or better your throat, where the thyroid is.

Iodine (which is in kelp) is food for thyroid.

You can also go to holistic natural MD who can get you NATURAL medication. I just don't believe in synthetic hormone replacement.

You should also look up adrenal fatigue, it is all related.

    Good luck to you

  4. Virgin Coconut Oil offers great hope for those suffering from hypothyroidism (low thyroid function) today.

  5. an under active thyroid is not a leisure matter, if you don't get it treated it could lead to more problems. Medicine isn't always bad, I hope you keep following up on it.

  6. Try taking 200mg of selenium. I hear it works wonders for many thyroid patients. I personally don't take it as my thyroid is now removed!

  7. It depends. My thyroid is slightly under-active according to blood tests but I have none of the symptoms (feeling tired and sleeping a lot,  feeling the cold easily,  dry and/or pale skin, etc.).  My doctor said if I experience symptoms, I can take medication but since it's only slightly under-active, she said we can hold off.

I take the natural supplements L-tyrosine, and kelp. For information about those 2 supplements, read here

I wouldn't suggest you self-medicate. Talk it over with your doctor and base your decision on blood tests and symptoms.  If you need medication, by all means, get it!
