Under-fire Arsenal striker, Andrei Arshavin backed up by Gunners’ manager, Arsene Wenger
Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, has backed his under-fire left winger, Andrei Arshavin, after he was heavily criticized by Emirates faithful for his poor performance during Arsenal’s 1-1 FA Cup third round draw against Leeds United.
It was Arshavin’s first start in three games for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 and the Russian once again failed to perform in front of the home crowd.
Andrei Arshavin missed an early chance to score when he was one-on-one with the keeper. The Russian was played through on the left wing by Thomas Rosicky but http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Andrei-Arshavin-c5771 took too many touches on ball and only found the chest of Leeds’ keeper, Kasper
Schmeichel.
Moreover, the experienced Russian was also lazy on the ball and lost possession on more than one occasion.
In addition to that, his interaction with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Nicklas-Bendtner-c27726 was very poor which left Arsenal fans frustrated.
There was a time when majority of Arsenal fans were cursing Arshavin, who was declared the most consistent player last season.
However, Arsene Wenger is not worried by Arshavin’s bad form and is hopeful that his Russian skipper will display impressive performances in the near future.
While talking about Arshavin’s condition, Arsene Wenger said, "I have no worries that [Andrey] Arshavin will come back into the team, but their confidence does suffer a little bit from that. He took one touch too many with his first chance and the keeper
did well to save another shot he had”.
The Frenchman continued, "Every player during a season has strong and weaker periods and he has had a weaker period, then two or three weeks on the bench. We try to analyse our games in an objective way and I am lucky because our players are self critical,
they analyse themselves well and they want to do well”.
Arsene Wenger added that the Gunners’ fans are demanding and he claimed that his team is not technically consistent which is why they were being criticised by the fans.
Wenger also insisted that the fans were frustrated due to lack of wins at Emirates.
The Frenchman added, “It is not through a lack of desire with Arshavin. He wants to do well”.
