Under-fire Strauss finds support in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/IJL-Trott-c1576 – Cricket News Update
The prolific England batsman Jonathan Trott, on Sunday backed the under-fire Test skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/AJ-Strauss-c964 and hoped the left-handed opening batsman will come out of his form slump in the second Test against Sri Lanka starting in Colombo on April 3, 2012.
Strauss has not scored a Test century since 2010 and with England batsmen struggling in the subcontinent conditions, former cricketers and Pundits want the English skipper to lead from the front with the bat.
Trott, however, backed the 35-year-old South Africa born saying that everyone goes through patchy phases during his career. Citing Strauss’ opening partner and the ODI captain of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c749 Alastair Cook as a live example, Trott hoped struggling Strauss will
soon come out of his slump.
"Every player goes through ups and downs. When someone is not scoring as many runs as they would like, or expect of themselves, it is always highlighted by you guys,” said Trott speaking to the media reporters ahead of the second Test starting at the P Sara
Oval Stadium in Colombo tomorrow.
"I'm sure it will have a similar effect as it did when Alastair Cook recently came through his little slump. I'm surprised you guys haven't learned your lesson from that," added the right-handed top-order batsman who struck a painstaking century in the opening
Test against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 at Galle, which the hosts won by 75 runs.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 at the Oval. Since then, Cook has scored six hundreds, including two double centuries.
England has lost four Tests in a row in the subcontinent since January this year and a defeat in Colombo this week would allow http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 to take over from them as the world’s No. 1 ranked Test team. However, Trott feels one century in the last 48 Test
innings and four Test defeats on the trot are not enough to strip Strauss of captaincy.
“He is our captain and that is the way it is,” said Trott. “I don’t think anyone else could see Andrew not being England captain. This [his form] is going to come round his way and everyone will be very happy for him.”
