  1. Gravel filtration of 1-50 mі/h in multilayer design, manually or automatically operated.

It's a special kind of sand filters to remove solids down to 10 - 20 µm from a solution. The sand (gravel) size will be between 1,3 up to 6,3 mm, applications are: well water treatment, pretreatment for Reverse Osmosis pants, pretreatment for drinking water final filtration in waste water plants with selective cation filters or as standalone system filtration of surface water cleaning of cooling water circles

  2. Under gravel filters are ok. Theyre certainly not the most effective filter, and you should use a gravel syphon when cleaning out your tank.

They are pretty easy to set up, though- you just connect the bits together, (there should be a base, and some air tubes) stick it on the bottom of the tank, cover with gravel, and connect the thin tube to a pump with a piece of air hose, fill the tank with water, turn on the pump and try it out.

There are only two ways the tubes can slot into the base (well, there is on my undergravel filter) so if it doesnt work the tubes are the wrong way around.

If you can I would defiantly get a standard filter- they take up more space in the tank but are much more effective.
