Under the Emergency Tax code 'BR'. How to get Tax refund?

I had worked for McDonalds initially. Later I found a better job (in April). So, I took leave/holiday from McDonalds and tried the new job for a month and a half. All this while, my new employer put be under the Emergency Tax Code-BR. When I approached them, they told me to contact the Tax office. The Tax people, they told me that my employer needs to sort it out. I again approached my employer. I was given the P38 (in May) by my employer as I am a student. I intend to work beyond my term time holidays. Nothing happened yet.

How do I get my tax code sorted?

How do i get refund for the extra tax that I've paid so far?

When I contacted my employer yesterday, I was told to fill in another P38.

What is the procedure?

McDonalds still needs to give me my P45. My employer has never asked me for my P45 so far. Please help.

Thanks in advance.

  1. The idiots should have put you on emergency code, not code BR. The tax office should sort this. Don't take no for an answer. try again at a different tax office. A student fills in a form, I think it is called 38S, this ensures that you get a full tax allowance.Get one and give it to them.

If you give your form P45 to your new employer they should action it and then you would get a tax refund along with your wages.
