Question:

Under the gum wisdom teeth extraction?

I'm getting all 4 of my wisdom teeth extracted, and all four haven't actually erupted yet. I was kind of in a daze when my dentist was telling me different sedative options, but he did tell me not to eat 6 hours prior to my appointment.

Does that mean I'm probably getting IV sedation or...something of the sort? I'm totally clueless.

And I'm so scared of IVs. Do they hurt?

  1. dont panic, IV sedation dosnt hurt, and yes prohibiting eating 6 hours prior to extraction may indicate IV sedation, but u may not be able to eat hard food for 3-4 days after extraction, some swelling may develop but it dosnt hurt, its not infection but called edema, if the extraction is a bit difficult, if its eay, no selling, no after extraction pain

  2. ..Good luck and I wish you well.Hi...Hey...IV sedation is a great way to go when your having the type of dental procedure your going to have....The IV isn't at all a painful procedure...As for the eating issue, any time your going to have IV sedation you should not have  food in your stomach as you could become nauseated and hurl (vomit) during the procedure and that wouldn't be good....Also you could have a good deal of nausea after the procedure form having eaten to close to the procedure....Let me caution you to be very very careful to follow "all" the post extraction instructions you DDS will give you after the procedure is completed.

  3. Im not sure but I think it is a sedation shot and you are still consious my sister just had hers out!
