Under what chapter do Soldiers get discharged when disability are under 30%.Is it an administrative discharge?

  1. If they are getting discharged for a medical problem,  it is either a medical separation or a medical retirement.  

    The services usually go for a medical separation as that relieves the service of having to provide medical care for the rest of his life to him and his family,  having to pay retirement and etc.  

    However, regardless of getting a medical separation or retirement,  he can turn around and apply to the VA for disability benefits.   Those are often more than he would get from a military retirement so getting a separation,  taking the money and then going to the VA is a better deal if the VA will provide medical care.
