  1. when your going to hit something , like a person ,something in the road (IE) TIRE,animal, but be sure where u swerve is clear also.

  2. if there was a child or animal in the road

  3. I don't know.  You never know the effects of swerving until after it's over.  I can tell you that from experience.  Sometimes the effects of swerving are worse than what you're trying to avoid. About the only time it is appropriate is when you have a totaly clear safety lane to use, and you really know you aren't going to lose control.

If it's a question of crashing into a car on a busy street, it's probably usually best to just crash right into it.  Cars can be replaced.  If you serve and run over somebody on the sidewalk, they can't be.

In the case of animals, always drive straight over an animal. That's an easy one, and it helps to make your mind up ahead of time.  As for any moral argument, you'd have to be pretty stupid to think it's okay to drive along with insects smashing into your windshield all day long, but you're under an obligation to swerve to miss a varmit and kill yourself instead.    Have a little intellectual integrity.  About half the time, you'll miss them anyway.

If a ball comes across the road, naturally you'd expect a kid right behind it.  No matter what you hit, it's okay to swerve to miss a pedestrian in the road.

If it's a deer, I guess you know they're very dangerous.  I'd probably hit one straight on, but I never have.  I'd much rather hit a deer than a tree.

  4. Good question!

Well, swerving is something I have rarely had to do. If you are constantly scanning and actually paying attention to what's out there around you, intersections, pedestrians, etc., then you will usually be aware of what's coming up and thus prepare yourself for it ahead of time.Even when making a simple lane change, never steer abruptly. Keep your steering smooth and controlled. Use minimal steering and look well ahead up the lane you are entering. Always look well ahead, AFAYCS....(as far as you can see), follow far enough back from vehicles so you CAN see and you CAN stop in time.

If you have to "swerve"..........use minimal steering, because in poor weather or road conditions you could lose control and roll your vehicle..... and look where you want your vehicle to go......so, DON"T look at the tree, bridge abutment, deer or pedestrian because you will hit it. Instead, DO look for a "space" to go.........look at the back end of a deer, because deer don't run backwards.......keep your hands at 9 and 3 oclock position. Always brake first, then come off the brake and steer.....braking/accelerating and steering at the same time will make you lose control of your vehicle unless you are a rally car driver or race car driver.......

Most of us are limited in our ability to handle emergency manoeuvers because they rarely happen so we don't have experience at it.

You can also take an advanced Driving course where you will learn a few techniques to assist you in handling your vehicle in adverse or emergency conditions.

  5. only to avoid a person or something bigger than you are pulling in front of you, not dogs, cats, tires, deer, ect. Brake to limit damage but keep straight.

  6. To avoid a person, animal, car or anything that come out or is in your path of driving, that is why you always look 20 seconds down the road while you drive...
