Under what political circumstances did the KKK arise?

please do not go crazy on me for asking about the KKK this is for a History class. it is a Modern history class going from the End of the civil war till the early 1990's

  1. The KKK first arose in the turmoil after the Civil War.  It was founded in 1865 by veterans of the Confederate Army.  Its purpose was to restore white supremacy in the aftermath of the American Civil War.  The KKK quickly adopted violent methods.  

    In 1915 the second Klan was founded.  It grew rapidly after WWI and postwar social tensions.  Americans coped with booming growth rates in major cities, where numerous waves of immigrants from southern and easter Europe and the Great Migration of Southern blacks and whites were being absorbed.  Labor tensions rose as veterans tried to reenter the work force.  In reaction to these new groups, the second KKK preached racism, anti-catholicism, anti-communism, nativism, and anti-semitism in reaction to the new group of immigrants and migrants
