Underated movie about female VP nomination!?

I think one of the most underated films of the year 2000 (it didn't make the top 100) is a film called "The Contender". An attractive female senator nominated to fill a VP vacancy caused by the death of the VP. Joan Allen was age 44 when the movie was release, the same age as Sarah Palin. The movie is terrific. Gary Oldman does some of his best work as the manipulative senator, and Jeff Bridges is the president worried about his legacy. Christian Slater, Sam Elliot, and William Peterson play excellent supporting roles.

It is an R-rated thriller about media titillation, character assasination, gender roles, and the politics of s*x. Don't watch the end on youtube. It will spoil the movie for you.

Is there any one else who thinks this movie was on the edge of your seat compelling?
