  1. most large universities will allow you to complete your requirements in your first year of school. i go to the university of colorado-boulder and i started in mechanical engineering-- but i did not have the physics or chemistry requirements, so i just took an intro class in each, and everything was fine :).

    hope this helps!

  2. You should be able to study either subject.  Colleges in the United States encourage international students, so as long as you are a good student, you should have no trouble.

You might want to consider the University of Oklahoma, my alma mater.  OU has one of the largest international student populations in the United States, and it is in a reasonably priced area in the US.  They have a great engineering program and a state-of-the-art medical center if you choose medicine.  In fact, many of the international students at OU are involved in one of those two career fields, and I have met many students from India.  If you are interested in OU, you can view their main web site at www.ou.edu or information about their study abroad program at http://admissions.ou.edu/stuabrd.htm.

    Good luck!
