Question:

Undergrad options for a Master's in Public Health (MPH)?

Can anyone in public health provide any insight on this? I am currently a biology major, but is it really necessary for me to join the sea of the pre-med students if I am not planning on going the same route? Do others major in non-science fields? I have interests in other majors too, and am even considering changing over to biological anthropology. I plan on studying epidemiology in graduate school, which follows the health and illnesses of a population. Would a B.A. in Biological Anthropology suite me better? What about a B.S in Biology: Ecology, Behavior and Evolution?

  1. Well I am actually about to graduate with a BA and my undergraduate major is biological anthropology. If anything you would want to focus on a major that you can excel in and you are interested in. A lot of the requirements for public health and biological anthropology are the same, however they are also the same for biology as well. You might want to look at the program that you are anticipating applying to and see what they are looking for in their applicants and go from there.

  2. one of my best friends works for the health department in a pretty good job....he has an undergrad degree in hotels and recreation or something like that...he's now in grad school working on masters in epidemiolgy.....so you dont even really have to be in a science discipline.
