Can anyone tell me:

-What careers a degree in biochemistry would usually lead to?

-What subjects and topics the degree usually includes?

-The best universities in the UK to study biochemistry?

-The approximate number of lecture hours per week?

-Anything else I might need to know if I were to take this degree?

Any feedback is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!

  1. Well I'm a chemistry student and a good friend of mine is a biochemist. Biochemistry is more biology them chemistry. You will maybe have 8-12 hours of lectures and 4-8 hours of labs a week. There are a lot of good universities for biochemistry. Look at the Russell Group universities:

as well as York which for some reason isn't on that list, there will be other good ones too.

By the way the best way to pick a uni is by visiting a lot of them.

Here is an idea of a course overview, it just happens to be at my uni:

  2. degrees including chemistry are usually very broad and therefore offer a wide range of careers - the skills learnt in this degree are said to be transferable. a great career opportunity would be in the pharmaceutical industry, which is what i am thinking to do after my masters degree in chemistry. i know a chemistry degree does include some biochemistry. a biochemistry degree is probably more towards the biology side, including rug interaction in the body and how they work. for a masters degree in chemistry, there are about 10 hours of lectures and 10 hours of practical work a week. biochemistry is probably along the same lines. if you were to do this degree, i recomend you doing the year in industry option if it is available to you, as mre employers are likey to want you if you have that extra experience.

hope this information helps you and all the best for your career!
