I'm reading all the amendments currently. But amendment 14 is rather confusing. Anyone think they could explain each sentence to me. Please.

  1. The 14th amendment is very long as you know...here is a website that breaks it down in a logical way...I hope it helps....it would take a long time to take it sentence by sentence.

  2. This sounds like a homework question.

The basics of the 14th are that the States are not allowed to discriminate against ANYONE within that particular state.

Also, that the rights which exist within the Bill of Rights, or anywhere within the Constitution also apply to the States.

Now go do your research, try wikipedia and NOT some conservative ragsite that others might endorse.

  3. Actually, regardless of your inability to understand it, it is Constitutional, and yep, you have to pay taxes.

  4. I found this great website.  Go to the 14th amendment and at the bottom of the written amendment there is a section called "notes" that explains it pretty well.

  5. You'd have to spend an entire lifetime reading case law from the US. Supreme Court in it's rulings about the 14th Amendment in order to *start* answering that question, and even then you will still never be able to fully *predict* what the Court will do next with that amendment.

    It needs to be re-written.
