I am looking to have a better understanding of the applications side of I.T. How can I increase my general knowledge without having to spend alot of time. I dont need to know how to write code. Just what goes with what and where etc.

Example:

Windows

.NET

Unix/Linux

etc

But with a little bit more detail. I just need to be able to understand what these technologies are. Thanks!

  1. You'll have a tough time learning anything if you aren't willing/able to put some good time into it.

But to answer your question, forums are great places to learn.  Just search Google for "whatever technology you want to learn about" +forum

What would you like to know?  If you ask more of a specific question, people here will be able to give you a better answer.

  2. Here is a good resource to start with, this link explains what Operating Systems (Windows, Unix, Linux... ) do, on the left of the screen will be a menu called "Miscellaneous FAQs" Under that is "Main Menu" which has more info on applications:

For a general overview of the .Net stuff check:
