  1. The northern ones at sea level. That is why I like living in the Rocky Mountains.

  2. hopfully france and germany.....will go under

  3. Actually no nation would sink if all the ice on the planet melted. The areas that are subsiding like Venice in Italy and a few pacific islands are doing so because the earth beneath them is sinking, not because the seas around them are rising. What those who are working hard to panic the general public are quoting is the sea level rise that happened 10,000 years ago when the glaciers melted at the end of the last ice age and drowned all the major coastal cities of that time.

  4. If you measure the ice mass above the water lever of both pole, against the mass of all of the oceans, the rise should be insignificant, maybe a couple of feet at the most.

  5. no cities will be under water, because even if ice melted it would not raise sea levels that much

  6. Well there are a whole host of them. Some times I do look on the bright side. Just think of all the great swimmers that these country's will produce.

  7. HELLO WATER PRESSURE! WE'D ALL GET SQUISHED WITH UNDERWATER CITIES! unless scientist make a miracle

  8. Just goes to show how ignorant of the facts...and how gullible some people are.

Global warming ISN'T causing the seas to rise..they have been doing that for several thousand years. The current rate of rise about 1.4 to 1.5 mm /year HASN'T changed...isn't changing due to ice cap melts..has nothing whatsoever to do with global warming.

If anyone can find a FACT that suggests otherwise please post a link.

  9. You watch Al Gore to much.

  10. I don't think the melting of the polar ice on its own will make very much difference.  Thermal expansion of the oceans would be much more serious.

If the polar ice caps were to disappear, there would be nothing to reflect the sunlight back into space, so more would be absorbed, heating the planet further.

As the oceans warm, as well as expanding, they will start to release carbon dioxide, making the problem even worse.

So, although the actual water from the melting ice may not make much difference, the loss of the ice caps could have a much bigger effect on sea levels indirectly.

Which countries will go? Apart from a few islands perhaps, I don't think any would go completely, but low lying areas of many countries  could be lost!

    Florida perhaps?

  11. no single country would go underwater. however, i do believe that the nation of tuvalu is under huge threat. go to the net and research more on that. coastal cities such as venice and new york city will be under threat. oh yes, i forgot to mention the maldives. could be a huge problem.

  12. Most of the London area in the UK will be under water.

Generally it will be coast lines although some small islands will disappear completely. Check out these web site for more info.

  13. The sea has been rising, slowly, for 15,000 years.    The first Americans walked here on a land bridge that is now submerged.     By the way they walked by glaciers half a mile high and hunted mammoths.

For the last 8,000 years or so the seas have been rising at a fraction of a millimeter per year - perhaps that's a bit over a millimeter now.     That's three feet in eight centuries.

"Waterworld" is just another post-apocalyptic fantasy in which Kevin Costner puts you to sleep but Dennis Hopper keeps you somewhat interested.

It's no more a vision of things to come than the Mad Max movies.

"Two men enter, one man leaves" was a great line though.

And Tina ROCKED in Beyond Thunderdome.

But they're ENTERTAINMENT - NOT SCIENCE!

  14. Places that are already at risk even without GW Bangladesh, Holland and quite a few islands like the Maldives.

  15. Not many NATIONS will go underwater, but many coastal cities can be threatened. New York City, for example.

  16. Maybe none.

The northern pole may be melting but the Antarctic ice is getting bigger. Go figure.

    >>>With stories of melting glaciers and sea ice dominating the headlines, it may come as a surprise to some to hear that Antarctica - defying the unlucky fate of its northern cousin - has actually gained over the last two decades. Indeed, while scientists noted declines in the amount of sea ice between 2000 and 2002, satellite records have pointed to a steady half a percent yearly gain since 1978.<<<
