Underwear under leotards for 4 yr old?

Question

Stupid question, but my 4 year old daughter starts tumbling tomorrow, and I really didn't know how this leotard thing works. Do I put underwear under it for her, if no what do I use or do I use nothing at all? Please inform me so I am not the only parent looking stupid at her class tomorrow!

your child will know what she wants usually I would use panties but make sure they fit properly.  She may decide they are not comfortable and choose not to wear any.

I've coached gymnastics (pre-school through competitive level) for a long time, and here's what I can tell you.  Most kids don't wear underwear under their leotard - they just wear the leotard.  However, if your daughter really wants to wear undies underneath, it's no big deal for a 4-year-old.  Some pre-schoolers do wear undies because, like you, they don't know not to!  But once she gets a little older, she'll probably get teased if she has undies hanging out of her leotard.  

Now, once girls get to be 12-13 and older, most start wearing briefs underneath - like underwear, but made of the same lycra material as a leotard and cut higher, so they're not really noticable.  If your daughter feels uncomfortable wearing a leo with nothing underneath - or if she has a thin, see-through leotard -  you could get her some briefs to wear.  They're sold at most dance studios, and some gyms carry them or can order them for you.

I always put underpants under leotards. It just made me feel better. There were always a mix of children who did and did not have them on. I made sure that panties didn't stick out of the leotard.

well most girls in my level wear tunks

they are the same fabric as a leo and they have them to match your skin color

when your in level 4 or up you get deductions if the juges see your underwear

but every one wear tunks to practice also
