Undiscovered oil?

Is it true that there is " undiscovered " oil in the New England states but the wealthy people there do not want to ruin the scenery ? ?

Supposedly there is enough oil to last several years ! !

  1. Other than western New York there is little to no natuural sources of crude oil in New England.  One of the New England states is called the Granite State?  Granite is not a good rock to start your search for oil.  In fact, other than some really complex structural events, oil is not associated with granite or most instrusive igneous rocks.  Way offshore there may be oil in what is called the "outer continental shelf" or OCS.  Canada has developed the Hiberinia Oil field in the Eastern Canadian OCS.  There is political resistance to exploring for oil in the New England OCS, so the answer may be unresolved for some time.

    If any oil is found it may last for a few years for a limited population not for the entire USA.


  2. Probably not true for New England, but definitely true for Florida, California and Alaska.....
