Undrstanding racecards?

first you have the nuber of the horse , then the draw , then the form , then the horse, then bf , then cd , then weight, then jockey/trainer. !!!!!!!!

but what do these mean , either t,b,p or v at the side of the weight ????

or

(3) , (5) or (7) at the side of the jockey ???????????

  1. t = tongue-tied

    b = blinkers

    p = cheek pieces (the bits of sheepskin attached to the sides of the bridle)

    v = visor

    The number in brackets next to the jockey's name means the amount of weight he/she is allowed to "claim" off the horse's alloted weight.  To make up for their lack of experience, the apprentice jockey is allowed to take some weight off the horse's back.  So if a horse is due to carry 8st 5lb and the jockey has (5) next to his name, the horse will actually be carrying 8st.
