I am currently collecting U.C. from the state of Pennsylvania. I have heard that President Bush has extended the benefits. If I am still unemployed when my benefits end, do I need to file for the extension or is it automatically extended? Thank you in advance!

  1. Actually, the benefits have not been extended, but rather, an emergency unemployment benefit program has been put into place to cover additional weeks.  When your current benefits expire, you will need to apply to the US Department of Labor for the 13 weeks of extended emergency benefits.  You should have received a letter for the Department of Labor notifying you or potential eligibility and you should received another letter very soon (they are scheduled to go out mid-August) explaining how to apply.
