Thailand unemployment rate is 1.9-2.4% (Depend on Sources)

The US unemployment rate is 5.5% (CNN news and other media)

Isn't it irony?

  1. It is. Now consider this: you walk into a supermarket. Practically every aisle has at least one attendant. Usually more. Some are supermarket staff, most are send by their companies to help sell cookies, soap, whatever. (Those companies don't give discount to the supermarket, but send staff.)

Then you go to a big mall. How many  staff in any department? At least 5x what you see in the US.

That is also a kind of unemployment (hidden unemployment) but it doesn't show up in the figures..

  2. it is ironic... that is also the highest rate of unemployment I have ever seen for the US... when I left the US several years ago, the rate was under 4.5... then Bush got into the white house...

  3. well, these stats are suspect from both...b/c the usa includes all who are 'unemployed' it includes some who are, by choice...for example the nurse who has decided to work only 3 mos of the y ear and travel the rest...it does happen, a lot. and for Thai stats...how can you be seriously believing this? what is the source? how is it measured? Even if, let's say it's reliable (it isn't I promise) you must realize you are NOT comparing apples to apples.

  4. Only thing to remember is a recession is when your friend is out of work.  A depression is when your out of work.
