New Jersey Senator Demands 'Recapture' of Hundreds of Thousands of Visas in Order to Allow Reauthorization of E-Verify

WASHINGTON, July 29 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Senate consideration of a bill to reauthorize the E-Verify program has come to a screeching halt, as Senator Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) is demanding that hundreds of thousands of visas - mostly for foreign workers - be made available to special interests. The E-Verify program, which will expire on Nov. 30 if it is not reauthorized, allows employers to electronically verify workers' Social Security numbers to ensure they are legally entitled to work in the U.S.

In recent years, voluntary participation by employers in E-Verify has grown exponentially, as businesses have found it a convenient and reliable way to comply with laws against hiring illegal aliens. Sen. Menendez is seeking the 'recapture' of unused visas - both employment and family-based -- going back to 1992 in order to permit reauthorization of E-Verify to move forward. By some estimates, the number of 'recaptured' visas could be as high as 600,000.

  1. d**n politics. d**n politicians!!! They will/have screwed this country over!

If we don't look out for ourselves, and start caring about illegal immigrants, letting them stay, and BS like that, the next generations are screwed.

"Hey Mike, when are you going to get a job, you're 19 for God's sake!"

"Mom, maybe I could get a job if Hernando didn't do it for 3.00$ cheaper!"

"Well you don't have to mow lawns, you could get a job at the drug store up the corner!"

"No ma, Boris has the job up there!"

    "Well how 'bout the supermarket?"

"You been shopping lately Ma? Juan and Tomas and Natalya and Pierre  have jobs there!"

"Then you tell me where you're supposed to work!"

"Ma, the only place I could get a job is for the State or something, Jeez!"

"Dammit Mike, how are you gonna get a job there?"

    "I CAN'T, Ma!"

    "Then where do you work?"....

You see how it could be?

  2. Our attention should be focused on our nation and our citizens first.  I do believe that immigration should continue but the priority of outside immigrants should be behind the needs and the struggles or the legal citizens who could use help.

  3. Ok.  I am a Democrat, but they need to cut that $hit out.  It is stuff like that, that makes me weary of both parties.

They are wrong as two left shoes.

  4. E-verify has been reauthorized for 5 years.

But the question is, what happened to Menendez's visas in that vote?
