New Jersey Senator Demands 'Recapture' of Hundreds of Thousands of Visas in Order to Allow Reauthorization of E-Verify

WASHINGTON, July 29 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Senate consideration of a bill to reauthorize the E-Verify program has come to a screeching halt, as Senator Robert Menendez (D-N.J.) is demanding that hundreds of thousands of visas - mostly for foreign workers - be made available to special interests. The E-Verify program, which will expire on Nov. 30 if it is not reauthorized, allows employers to electronically verify workers' Social Security numbers to ensure they are legally entitled to work in the U.S.

In recent years, voluntary participation by employers in E-Verify has grown exponentially, as businesses have found it a convenient and reliable way to comply with laws against hiring illegal aliens. Sen. Menendez is seeking the 'recapture' of unused visas - both employment and family-based -- going back to 1992 in order to permit reauthorization of E-Verify to move forward. By some estimates, the number of 'recaptured' visas could be as high as 600,000.

  1. I feel like the foreign labor problem is fueled by Nafta and the fact that we haven't stood up for our rights as workers. In the past Labor Unions had some clout and we had jobs that paid plus health insurance.  It's neither a Democrat or Republican  agenda its  a big business agenda and nobody stopped them .  Is it too late.  It is for me, maybe you are you are young enough that you can fight for your rights

  2. The first thing we need to do is deport every illegal alien in this country.

Don't believe the lie that they do jobs American won't do

The primary victims of illegals are black Americans who would ordinarily compete for these jobs but since illegals work for less blacks are shut out

  3. You have completely misread this news article.  Senator Menendez is not trying to bring in a bunch more foreign workers; quite the opposite, he's advocating pulling in unused visas.

  4. yes. we need to increase foreign worker to drive wages down in the US.  also, we need to raise taxes on the working population and cut taxes for the super rich.  communist china will be happy to give us a loan.  let's increase our debt too and spend liberally.  are children will be happy to clean up the mess.

  5. Some of the jobs that these workers are doing, American workers will not do. Many of them are working on farms,in landscaping and in poultry and fish processing for low wages. I cant see technical or white collar jobs going to foreign workers because we have a lot of qualified Americans looking for work but if people wont do the unskilled labor jobs we have to fill the positions with someone.

  6. if only those unemployed were willing to pick our tomatoes and strawberries.
