Unemployment question.. Laws, 2 Different States, etc. HELP!?

OK, If I live in South Carolina and get unemployment from this state, and I WORK in North Carolina, do I have to claim that?? A lot of people are telling me that I don't.

What are the laws regarding this?? Is it legal, or is there a legal way to do something like this??

Any serious answers please.

  1. A lot of people? You mean a lot of fools? You have to report your weekly earnings in SC no matter where you earned them.


  2. You have to claim it as income on your income taxes.

    1. You have to pay State taxes to one of the states, if N. Carolina has a state tax you have to pay it to them since you are receiving it from them

    2. If S. Carolina has a state tax instead you have to pay that.

    3. You will have to pay Federal Tax on it no matter where you receive it from.

    4. you may have to file 2 state tax forms this coming year plus the federal

    You should also contact both states Unemployment Offices to get a copy of the rules regarding residing in one state while receiving benefits from another , and also call the Federal IRS office to get a copy of the laws that cover this.

    But no matter how you look at it you do have to pay taxes on it.
