Unfriendly argument between Tim Byrdak and Josh Thole spark during game - MLB Update
The New York Mets’ decline continues as they are swept by the Washington Nationals in the three match series. The slump is resulting in heated debate between the players on the field. In the last game of the series, by the time their relief pitcher Tim Byrdak
surrendered a home-run, he was unable to control his frustration from coming out.
Byrdak bickered with the catcher Josh Thole and the pitching coach Dan Warthen while in the field.
The Mets are entering into a critical phase of the season, where they can either drastically increase their chances for winning a play-off spot or can experience a thumping collapse.
Unfortunately since the start of the second half of the season, their performance has gone down dramatically.
Unable to avoid being swept by most of the sides they have come across so far after the All-Star break, their management is growing impatient over an unacceptable reality which is panning out for them.
Unless they win games on a regular basis until the end of the remaining part of the season, it will be difficult for them to qualify for the post-season.
In light of this, growing restiveness of the players which is reflecting in the open disapproval of each others’ actions can be realised. It can be understood that currently things are not going well for the Mets.
Earlier it was just the poor performance of the team, but now matters have worsened with players in the field expressing their anger and not respecting team-mates.
The Mets’ manager Terry Collins warns the players that it should not be happening from now onward.
“You’re going to see a different team in the next 10 days, two weeks,” said Collins. “I don’t deal with excuses. I deal with accountability.”
Meanwhile, after the incident took place between Byrdak and Thole, the former immediately acknowledged his mistake.
“There’s frustration all the way around this clubhouse,” Byrdak said. “A lot of guys are [ticked] off. Everybody’s [ticked] off. I made a mistake on the mound and apologized to Josh about it. It never should have happened. I’ve been in a rut and it seems
to have gone all the way around.”
As the Mets play their upcoming games, one will hope that they will be able to get rid of the demoralised feelings they are suffering right now.
