  1. Where do you live?  In Missouri (MO) we have good public hunting land.  Gen season starts November 15

  2. Missouri has over the counter tags (the buck tags are costly and many counties are 4 points on a side but the doe tags are very very cheap)

The problem with rifle hunting Missouri public land is twofold

    1. In the central and northern part of the state public land is PACKED. Land is usually 1000-3000 acres and It is nothing for several hundred people to be on it opening weekend. When it gets light you can normally see several other people.

    2. There is much more land in the southern part of the state due to the national forests. There are also less people. And there are less deer. If you have good knowledge of how to read ridges, you should be able to find some deer. Be carefull not to hunt on "someone else's spot" they've been hunting for years or you'll be having your truck towed to town on account of 4 flat tires.

I would recommend finding land that is bow or muzzleloader only methods during the centerfire season. Many conservation areas are going to that. It's usually really good hunting and you're by yourself.

  3. Arkansas has plenty of state owned hunting land down here in the southwest area of th state where I live and there are leased lands all over the place down here. You would just need to get hold of a club and see if they have any openings.
