Unhitchthetrailor to forget his horrendous run at Del Mar and start new at Fairplex Park in the Barretts Juvenile
Trained by Gary Sherlock for owners, Phil Daniels, Pasty London and Terry Lovingier, Unhitchthetrailor, the 2-year-old colt, and his connections would want to forget the races the colt ran in the Del Mar season.
It was a disastrous summer meet at Del Mar for Unhitchthetrailor, where he ran two races after breaking his maiden at Hollywood Park on 2 July, 2011, and that too in his third attempt.
Unhitchthetrailor, under jockey David Flores, ran over the Hollywood Park’s synthetic surface to cover the distance of 5 ½ furlongs, and he downed his opponents with a winning time of 1 minute and 4.81 seconds.
Prior to winning his maiden stakes' race, Unhitchthetrailor tried winning his first race at Hollywood Park, sprinting 4 ½ furlongs on each occasion, but failed to convert both the races into a winner, thus doing so in his third attempt.
After breaking his maiden, Unhitchthetrailor was sent to Del Mar to test his mettle in South California, but he got mercilessly beaten, as the colt saw how difficult it is to run against some quality juvenile runners.
Unhitchthetrailor announced his arrival, when he got entered in the Graduation Stakes on 3 August, 2011, at Del Mar over a distance of 5 ½ furlongs.
Ruler of Dubai went on to win the race, but Unhitchthetrailor rolled in fourth in a competitive field.
Next up was the I’m Smokin Stakes, and the 6 furlong dash again included the winner of the Graduation Stakes, Ruler of Dubai, who repeated the winning performance to top the six furlong distance in 1 minute and 9.42 seconds, while Unhitchthetrailor rolled
in for 6th.
Trainer Gary Sherlock described the performances, saying that he had two horrendous trips there and the last one was a nightmare as he was trapped on the fence with no chance to run.
However, Unhitchthetrailor is still young and will learn from his experiences, starting a new journey in the shape of $100,000 Barretts Juvenile at Fairplex Park on 18 September, 2011.
He can make things right there, as he is sent as the 7 to 5 preliminary favourite to win the race.
