Uni/Working in Germany, but not German.?

Question

I am studying German outside school on my own.

When I am a bit older, I would like to study on Psychology, and go to a university in Germany.

(Would that be possible? Communication-wise)

I wouldn't be perfect at German, but I'd know the basics and notice a few words, but would they be able to understand me in English, and would they be able to communicate with me?

Knowing the basics will not be enough to study at a german university bc. papers you have to turn in, books you have to read and exams will be in german.Furthermore, access to psychology programs of study is limited in germany since there are more students wanting to study it then places available.
