Unicaja, Zalgiris Kaunas and CSKA Moscow win – Euroleague Group B Fourth week Review – Part 1
During the fourth week of the Turkish Airlines Euro league, three games took place in Group B. Here is a brief review of the games:
Unicaja 99 - KK Zagreb Croatia Osiguranje 85
Unicaja improved to 3-1 in Group B with an impressive 99-85 victory over the slumping KK Zagreb Croatia Osiguranje on November 09, 2011 at Martin Carpena Arena in Malaga, Spain. With this victory, Unicaja now moved into a tie
with Panathinaikos for second place. Zagreb, meanwhile, slipped to 0-4 in the group, only winless team of the Euroleague regular season.
Six Unicaja players reached double figures on the night. Luka Zoric led the way with 14 points and three rebounds against his former team. Joel Freeland came off the bench with 13 points and six rebounds while Jorge Garbajosa and
EJ Rowland ended with 12 points apiece. Berni Rodriguez added 11 points and four assists while Saul Blanco totalled 10 points on 2 for 2 shooting from three-point range.
Mario Kasun led Zagreb with a game-high 23 points, shooting 9 for 16 from two-point range and a perfect 5 for 5 from free throw line, and grabbed seven rebounds. Damir Mulaomerovic recorded a double-double with 13 points and a
game-best 10 assists while Krunoslav Simon and Sean May registered 10 points each in the loss.
Unicaja shot 62.7 percent (32 for 51) from two-point range and limited Zagreb to 53.1 percent (25 for 47).
Zagreb opened the game on a 9-0 run and maintained their hold on the opponents for a 27-19 lead into the second period. Unicaja battled hard in the second quarter and were able to outscore KK 30-14, converting their deficit into
a 49-41 lead at halftime.
Unicaja continued to play strong defence in the third quarter and stretched their lead to 16-point, 73-57, heading into the fourth. In the fourth quarter, Unicaja pushed their margin to 20 points, 77-57, early in the quarter and
did not look back.
Zalgiris Kaunas 81 - Brose Baskets 70
Zalgiris Kaunas registered their first victory of the regular season with a commendable 81-70 win over the Brose Baskets on November 10, 2011 at the Zalgirio Arena. In doing so, the Kaunas improved to 1-3 in Group B and Brose dropped
to 1-3, with third consecutive loss.
Sonny Weems led the winners with a game-high 22 points on 4 for 7 shooting from downtown and pulled down six rebounds. Marko Popovic contributed 13 points on 5 for 6 shooting from free throw line while Milovan Rakovic ended with
12 points and six rebounds in the victory.
Predrag Suput came off the bench with 19 points and five boards for Brose Baskets. Marcus Slaughter added 11 points and eight rebounds while Julius Jenkins had 10 in the losing effort.
