Unicredit Ladies German Open: Anne-Lise Caudal beats Laura Davies in playoff to grab second LET title
French Anne-Lise Caudal, who posted a superb 67 in the final round of the Unicredit Ladies German Open, reeled off a birdie in play-off against Laura Davies, grabbing the coveted title.
Caudal displayed an excellent performance throughout the four-day event, held at Golfpark Gut Hausern. However, the French prodigy saw the match turn into a tough battle when English Davies tried to surge past
her after recording the same 67 in the final round.
Both the players were standing at 275 each at the end of the fourth day, which caused the tournament to stretch into playoff.
Analysts said that Caudal was not among the most favourite contenders for the title, however, bouncing back after the opening round helped her maintain the upper hand over her nearest rivals.
On the other hand, Davies got off to a much better start, as she posted a 69 to consolidate her position on the leaderboard. The second round, however, did not go that well for the Englishwoman.
The German crowd was pretty supportive, as the tournament officials said that players appreciated the response from the spectators.
Speaking to the media about her stunning performance, Caudal said that she was not sure what would happen till the final moments of the tournament. The French star pointed out that shooting a 67 in the last
three rounds really boosted her confidence, and she kept the momentum going till the last minute.
“I can’t believe it yet. It was an amazing week this week after a tough first round, plus two: a lot of emotion right now,” the winner said.
Caudal has been seeking to add victories to her profile for the last 3 years, as she won her first LET (Ladies European Tour) at the 2008 Portugal Ladies Open.
Commentators said that the French golfer has not had much experience of playoffs, yet she held her nerve against Davies, who won the 2010 edition of the German Open.
Davies shared her thoughts about the tournament at the end of the event, saying she was satisfied with what she did in the four days, but she could not judge her last birdie-putt. The English star said that
Caudal played a good game right from the start, which gave her an edge over most of her rivals.
