Unicredit Ladies German Open has thirteen German players in the field
The Unicredit Ladies German Open is going to be played from May 24 to 27, at Golfpark Gut Hausern, Germany, with several German contenders in the field.
According to the tournament officials, there will be thirteen German Players battling for the coveted title.
The players confirmed to play the event include Elisabeth Esterl, Miriam Nagl, Caroline Masson, Anja Monke, Sandra Gal, Martina Eberl-Ellis and Steffi Kirchmayr.
One of the most prominent German contenders is Sandra Gal.
Gal has been a tough player on the LET (Ladies European Tour) and the LPGA (Ladies Professional Golf Association), but she has been able rack up just one title. She won the Kia Classic, an LPGA tournament,
in the 2011 season. She displayed a superb game and beat Jiyai Shin by one stroke.
Analysts said that Gal’s presence will make tournament even tougher, as the field is already awash with competent players like the defending champion, Diana Luna and Amy Yang of South Korea.
Although winless on the LET, the German star has vowed to prove her mettle on the Tour, especially on her home course.
Sharing her thoughts about the looming battle at the Golf Park Gut Hausern, Gal said that she is brimming with confidence and will try to put pressure on her rivals in early rounds.
The German prodigy recently injured her left foot while jogging, badly hurting the tendon. However, she has been undergoing treatment, and has recovered to a great extent.
Gal said despite her hurting foot, she participated in the Sybase Match Play.
“I just went running for half an hour on Saturday a week ago and the next day I woke up and I couldn’t put pressure on my left foot. When you’re swinging you put all your weight on your left foot so it’s basically
an inflammation of the tendon and that’s all it is. It needs some rest and some treatment,” the 27-year-old said.
Another German player is rookie, Steffi Kirchmayr, who is firm to take on experienced players in her home town.
Although she has participated in the Unicredit ladies German Open four times as an amateur, the 2012 edition of the tournament is going to be her first as a professional player.
