Unidentifiable flying black bugs in north carolina !! HELP !!?

i live in north carolina about an hour north of charlotte and today my neighbors and I noticed BIG flying black bugs we think they eat wood because they seem to be around wood. Can anyone gives us any ideas as to what they are? or how we can find out what they are?

It's what's that called from the bible...................................... no that's not it......................................... it's not pest......UMM NO......flying black bugs??...... Plagues.... I think it was plagues but that's probably not it... It's probably attracted to corn, is there a corn field or lake near you... Sorry, i not much help, am i... Maybe you can call your county and ask them about the bugs. they'll probably send someone out to spray the streets with pesticide.

  5. i live in concord north carolina.. could they be japanese beatles...they may also be called june beatles...they come out about this time and there seems to be a thousand of them...we take badmitten rackets and hit them..it can really be fun but if you get really close to them and see that their backs are a dark green then thats what they are

  7. big, black, around wood. there's probably only a few million species that fit that description.

    do you have a picture?

  8. They sound like cut beetles. Do they make rings around the tree limbs?

    Another possiblity is a kissing beetle.

    These can cary desease so I would stay way, You can get Chagus.

  9. Take a picture and post it online.  Someone on yahoo! answers might know.  If they eat wood, they are probably termites.
