If you could help my identify any of these plants that would be helpful. If you can find the scientific name that would be great, but if not, the common name would be fine! THANKS! (=

  1. 1) Hard to say for certain, but it's not chinkapin or chestnut.  These would have toothed leaves, but if you look at the enlarged photos (raw image) your tree's leaves have entire margins (see in this view and click to enlarge: http://i32.tinypic.com/20zuxb8.jpg ).  Judging by the glossiness of the leaf, it looks more like it's be an osage orange (Maclura pomifera, aka "monkeyball tree" where I grew up):  http://www.pittstate.edu/herbarium/woody... or possibly a gum (Nyssa sp.).  If there are single spines next to the leaf base, that would be the osage orange, although I've seen a few trees lacking these.

2).  If it's the plant in focus, that's a grass in flower.  I wouldn't begin to try and guess which one.

    3) Appears to be a privet (Ligustrum sp.) that's about to flower:  http://faculty.etsu.edu/mcdowelt/Photos%...

When asking a question such as this, it would be helpful if you could say the general geographic area where the photos were taken (if you know it) - that might help narrow down the possibilities.

ADDITION:  The added plant appears to be a hackberry or sugarberry (Celtis sp.): http://plants.usda.gov/java/profile?symb... , http://plants.usda.gov/java/profile?symb...

  2. The first plant appears to be either a Chestnut tree or more likely a Chinquapin Oak.

The second plant, if your talking about the one in the background and not the seed stalk thats in focus, is something from the mint family but I am not sure of the species. If the stems are square then it is in the mint family.

I am totally clueless about the third picture.

  3. # 1 NEEDS A CLOSE UP OF A LEAF TO HELP I.D. ------ # 3 NO IDEA WHAT IT IS BUT HAVE ONE GROWING IN A DITCH AT THE EDGE OF MY PROPERTY
